Bharat Ratna is a 1996 Telugu action comedy film directed by A. Kodandarami Reddy and starring Vijayashanti, Vinod Kumar and Gopi in the lead roles. The film is a remake of the 1992 Tamil film Bharathan, which was also directed by Reddy. The film was dubbed into Hindi as Bharat Ratna and released in 1997.

The plot revolves around Vijaya and Gopi, two petty thieves who are befriended by Major, a retired military officer. Major trains them to become undercover agents and assigns them to stop Balu Ram, a corrupt minister who is involved in illegal arms dealing with Nawab Khan, an international terrorist. Balu Ram kidnaps a foreign delegation of representatives of developed countries who have come to India to discuss the Kashmir issue. He plans to exchange them for a huge ransom and weapons from Nawab Khan. Bharat Ratna, a female military officer who is in charge of the security of the delegates, is suspected of being involved in the kidnapping. She loses both her legs in an attack by Balu Ram's men and becomes wheelchair-bound. Her husband Shekhar, an inspector, brings Vijaya, who looks exactly like Bharat Ratna, and replaces her as the military officer. Vijaya infiltrates Balu Ram's gang and locates the hostages with the help of Gopi and Shekhar. They rescue the delegates and expose Balu Ram and Nawab Khan. Bharat Ratna is hailed as a national hero and awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour.

The film was a commercial success and received positive reviews from critics. It was praised for its comedy, action sequences, music and performances. Vijayashanti won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress Telugu for her dual role as Bharat Ratna and Vijaya. The film's soundtrack was composed by Koti and featured songs such as "Chilakamma Chitikeyanga", "Nee Navvule Vennelani" and "Oho Oho Pavurama". The film was also remade in Kannada as Bharathi with Malashri in the lead role.
