Google Now Lets You Control Your Phone Using Harry Potter Spells
Google now lets you control your phone using Harry Potter spells
If you are a fan of Harry Potter, you will be delighted to know that Google has added some magic to its voice assistant. You can now cast some of the most popular spells from the wizarding world using your Android phone or Google Home device.
According to Google, this feature was inspired by the 20th anniversary of the first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, which was published in 1997. The feature was launched in 2016, but many fans have rediscovered it after the recent Harry Potter reunion special on HBO Max.

To cast a spell, you just need to say "Hey Google" followed by the name of the spell. For example, you can say "Hey Google, Lumos" to turn on your phone's flashlight, or "Hey Google, Nox" to turn it off. You can also say "Hey Google, Accio" followed by the name of an app to open it, or "Hey Google, Wingardium Leviosa" to see a random flight destination.
Some of the spells have more dramatic effects, such as "Hey Google, Avada Kedavra", which will dim your screen and activate airplane mode, or "Hey Google, Crucio", which will make your phone vibrate. You can also try "Hey Google, Silencio" to mute your phone, or "Hey Google, Expelliarmus" to eject your SIM card (if your phone has a removable one).
If you have a Google Home device connected to your smart lights, you can also use "Hey Google, Lumos Maximus" to turn on all the lights in your house, or "Hey Google, Nox" to turn them off. You can also use "Hey Google, Alohomora" to unlock your smart lock (if you have one).
Google says that there are 19 Harry Potter spells that you can use with its voice assistant. You can find the full list of spells and their effects on this website. However, some of the spells may not work in all regions or languages, so you may need to experiment a bit to find out which ones work for you.
This feature is a fun way to add some magic to your everyday life and feel like a real wizard. You can also impress your friends and family with your spell-casting skills. Just be careful not to use any of the unforgivable curses on them!
